Current Projects of ESUG

After a study for UNEP Convention on Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) in 2013, ESUG worked with CMS Raptors MOUInternational Association for Falconry and Conservation of Birds of Prey (IAF) and BirdLife International to build portals to promote conservation through use of the Saker Falcon. A Final Report for Phase I of the project was released.

After completing the Sakernet portal for that project, ESUG was contracted by IAF to create in 2017 a Perdixnet system for restoring farmland biodiversity, with small game birds as a flagship. In 2019 we worked with the organisation that federates some 90 countries and more than 1300 non government conservation organisations, with observer seat at the United Nations, to launch the Naturalliance network (now in 45 languages) as described in detail elsewhere.

PROactive approach for COmmunities to enAble Societal Transformation (Pro-Coast) started on 1 November 2023 and will run for 3 years, coordinated by ESUG. The project will research how to create Transition Communities by addressing motivations for nature conservation based on human culture and diversity considerations. It will do this by initiating projects in nine local coastal areas of Europe, with motivations based mainly in sustainable use (of cultural and productive services from wild species and their ecosystems), and then scale for roll-out on the network. The work will include more satellite-site facilities in local languages. It will also build web-services, to deliver decision support for conservation through sustainable use in exchange for local data used to make the decisions. ESUG is responsible for running the multilingual Community Sustainability Platform, which will host the highly innovative Reciprocal Environmental Decision Support (REDS), until 2033.

ESUG was contracted to develop the Flagship Project for a Saker Falcon Portal and Network. The portal's back-office and construction site was based on design for www.naturalliance.eu. A live site is in Asian languages only. Networking has started through links to the Science and Admin site based on our System for Community Liaison.
